Family Rest Ginrei Review: Hidden Lunch Gem at Kijimadaira Ski Resort [Jan 2026]

ファミリーレスト銀嶺 外観

On January 24-25, 2026, during our snowboarding trip to Snow Resort Romance no Kamisama (Kijimadaira Ski Resort), we discovered a hidden lunch spot that deserves more attention: Family Rest Ginrei.

After starting our day at 8:00 AM, we felt the cold creeping in around 10:30 AM and decided to take a break. Since I hadn’t covered this restaurant on the blog yet, here’s my full review.

It was too early for a full lunch, so we ordered beer and fries, plus a complimentary serving of Nozawana pickles (a Nagano specialty). My partner warmed up with hot coffee.

Bottom Line: Despite its location at the base of the slopes (which means fewer visitors), Family Rest Ginrei is a spacious, uncrowded hidden gem where you can relax without feeling rushed!

🎯 Key Highlights

  • Base area location = Less crowded
  • Spacious interior with high ceilings and an open feel
  • Beer, light snacks, and hot drinks available
  • Solid food menu with curry, ramen, and rice bowls
  • Perfect for families and relaxed breaks

☕ Our Experience: 10:30 AM Break

Feeling the Cold After 2.5 Hours

We started skiing at 8:00 AM, and by 10:30 AM, the January cold at Kijimadaira had really set in. We decided to take an early break.

We headed to Family Rest Ginrei, located at the base of the slopes.

Ticket Vending Machine System

Upon entering, you purchase meal tickets from a vending machine. Since it was too early for a full lunch, we kept it light: beer and fries for me, and hot coffee for my partner.

Complimentary Nozawana Pickles—A Nice Touch!

When you order beer, they include complimentary Nozawana pickles—a Nagano specialty. It’s a small but delightful touch that adds local flavor.

The fries were crispy with just the right amount of salt—perfect with beer.

Spacious and Relaxed Atmosphere

The best part of Family Rest Ginrei is its spacious interior and uncrowded environment.

Because it’s at the base of the slopes, most skiers and snowboarders head to restaurants at the summit or mid-mountain. As a result, Ginrei is much quieter and less crowded, making it a hidden gem for a relaxed break.

Food Menu Also Looks Good

We only had light snacks this time, but the menu includes curry, ramen, rice bowls, and more. I’ll definitely try a full meal next time!

✅ Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • Uncrowded! Relax without feeling rushed
  • Spacious interior with high ceilings and an open feel
  • Tatami floor seating available—great for families
  • Beer + Nozawana pickles – authentic Nagano experience
  • Wood stove for warmth
  • Full menu with curry, ramen, and rice bowls

👎 Cons

  • Base area location – requires a detour if you’re skiing higher up
  • Inconvenient for advanced skiers who stay near the summit
  • Less well-known – many skiers don’t know it exists

🎯 Who Should Visit Family Rest Ginrei?

  • Want to avoid crowds? → Much quieter than upper-mountain restaurants
  • Families with kids → Tatami seating for relaxed dining
  • Looking for a peaceful break → No rush, spacious seating
  • Beginners practicing near the base area → Convenient location
  • Morning break → Perfect stop after a few hours of skiing

📌 Final Thoughts: A Hidden Gem Worth Visiting

Family Rest Ginrei’s base area location means it’s not always top-of-mind for skiers—and that’s exactly why it’s a spacious, uncrowded hidden gem.

The food is solid, the beer + Nozawana combo is excellent, and the wood stove keeps you warm. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried.

If you’re looking to avoid the lunch rush and enjoy a peaceful break, Family Rest Ginrei is the perfect choice!
